We’ve seen a similar trend play out over the last few summers.
May and June tend to be moderately busy, with changes made in aftermath of spring sports like baseball and softball wrapping up.
July is rather sleepy.
Then, August hits like a tidal wave.
August often ends up being one of the months with the most amount of changes. The school year begins. The fall sports pretty much all get started over the course of a few weeks. Winter sports begin on-campus workouts. And oftentimes, newly-updated coaching staffs are posted online during this stretch.
This August was no different.
There were a massive amount of changes to our databases in August. There were 12,048 changes in total — across all sports. From a percentage standpoint, 12.59% of the people we list in our databases were added, removed or had at least one piece of information change this month. That’s close to an all-time high.
Here’s the full breakdown.
- 5,492 people were newly added to our databases.
- 4,124 were removed.
- 2,432 others stayed at their school, but had at least one piece of information change. That can be an email, name, phone number, job — or any combination of those four things.
All of these changes were marked on the added and removed sections of our databases. We use those two columns to provide an itemized breakdown of the adjustments made.
